Piety and/or representation. Transylvania’s Reformed Heritage

30th September 2017 - 25th March 2018

Transylvanian Reformed congregations bear to the present day the imprint of Reformation, the traces of the past 500 years. Just as written sources have recorded the events, material heritage also preserves the characteristics of a particular region and era. The exhibition tries to capture the essence of the Reformed Church’s diversity in Transylvania, providing an overview of the centuries-long processes, and presenting the main features of different eras and of parishes situated in seats, urban areas or county regions. The exhibition highlights the differences between county and seat congregations’ everyday life, as well as the expression of their piety and representational purposes, both rooted in the different social and property structures.
